Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed that one person was killed and another injured in a single car accident on I-40 East in Jefferson County.
Officers said Evan Nathaniel Loggins, 21, of Forsyth, Ga. was ejected from his Toyota 4-Runner, while the vehicle rolled three times on the highway. Authorities said he was not wearing his seat belt at the time.
The car's passenger 18-year-old Alyssa D. Crum of Greeneville, Tenn. was also injured in the wreck and was wearing her seat belt, according to the release.
The medical examiners said they found no drugs or alcohol in the driver's system. Authorities said they have notified their families.
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 5:00 on Sunday afternoon near mile marker 420, shutting down two lanes of eastbound traffic. TDOT cleaned the wreck later that afternoon.
