The day before class begins, we learned Sarah Moore Green is the only Knox County school that's on the state's new "priority list."
Those are schools ranked in the lowest 5th percentile in academic achievement.
The state board of education voted on which schools will be on that priority list Monday afternoon.
Superintendent McIntyre recently named Reggie Mosley as the new principal of Sarah Moore Green.
Mosley says Tuesday's first day of classes will signal the beginning of a new fight to improve school-life for his students.
"I think we can. We have the manpower, the support systems in place to really touch every child," he said.
Mosley most recently served as principal at Blue Grass Elementary, also in Knoxville.
The Board of Education also added Inskip, Beaumont, Fountain City, Austin-East and Vine Middle Magnet to its "focus" list of schools.
Focus schools are those that need to focus on closing the achievement gap.
The superintendent says lots of Knox County schools rank high in achievement.
