As opening statements began in the trial of a woman charged in the death of a Monroe County election commissioner, a man was arrested outside the courthouse for threatening a witness.

Adam Victor Toepfer, who has a Knoxville address, was taken into custody for criminal contempt of court because he allegedly told a witness that she would be "the next person in a trunk."

Toepfer was also arrested at the courthouse on Monday for public intoxication.   It is not clear if Toepfer has anything to do with the case.

Jessica Kennedy, 28, is charged with felony murder in the death of Jim Miller.  His burned body was found in the trunk of a car in 2010.

In opening statements, her attorney said that Kennedy was kept in a room for nine hours until she confessed out of fear.

Prosecutors said the Kennedy was "part of a homicide."  Investigators believe other people were involved in Miller's death, but no other arrests have been made.
