Blount County commissioners voted in favor of putting a sales tax referendum on the November ballot.
In a 19-to-1 vote Thursday, the commission agreed to let voters decide whether to increase the sales tax from 2.25% to 2.75%.
The director of Blount County schools called for the referendum. Earlier this month, Alcoa voters approved a tax increase.
All voters except those in Alcoa can vote on the countywide measure in November.
