The high school football season kicks off tonight with Week Zero. The USA Today High School Sports Game of the Week features two upstart programs, Karns and South-Doyle.
Karns finished the 2011 regular season with a 6-4 record, its first winning season since 1974.
South-Doyle claimed just one victory in 2009 and 2010 combined. In 2011, Clark Duncan's third year as head coach, he led the Cherokees to a 5-5 regular season record and a playoff appearance.
Both teams were knocked out of the playoffs in the first round and are looking to build on their 2011 success.
Tonight's game is a rematch of a rain-soaked battle in Week Zero last year.
South-Doyle took that game 7-0. Karns is looking for revenge tonight on its home field.
