An East Knoxville housing project may look different next week.
86 units will be demolished at Walter P. Taylor Homes. An additional 96 units will also be torn down at the adjacent Dr. Lee Williams Senior Complex.
The government housing is located off Martin Luther King, Junior Avenue.
The project is part of a major effort to revitalize East Knoxville's Five Points community.
$80 million will be used to build new housing in that area over the next 10 years.
The Knoxville Community Development Corporation is supervising the effort.
KCDC has relocated impacted residents.
"Because the residents in the complex were displaced by governmental action, they received the option for Section 8 vouchers. They're also entitled to be on top of the waiting list for any of our other housing developments," said Jordana Nelson with KCDC.
Demolition could begin Thursday.
317 units will remain between the two developments after the first demolition phase is complete.
