The University of Tennessee reported that its class of 2016 is one of the most competitive and diverse classes that has entered through its doors.
This year's incoming freshman class had an average score of 27 on the ACT, which is a significant bump from scores almost two decades ago. In 1994, the average ACT score for incoming freshman was 23.1.
Forty-four percent of the incoming freshman class had a high school GPA of 4.0 or higher. Eighty-nine percent of these students are from Tennessee, and 19 percent are considered minorities.
