CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga is growing faster than it can keep up with.

According to the Chattanooga Times Free Press, more than 12,000 students are expected to begin fall classes Monday -- up 12 percent from 2010.

Associate Vice-Chancellor Chuck Cantrell said the university is having some growing pains. Cantrell said that's especially true in lab courses like biology, chemistry and physics.

Dalton, Ga., dietetics major Emily Broadrick said many of the required core curriculum classes were full by the middle of summer.

Freshmen began moving into dorms on Thursday, but about 175 of them are bunking at the Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel for at least part of the semester because on-campus housing is very tight.
