A Knox County Election Commission meeting Monday afternoon decided to keep a voting location closed, which typically draws a heavy democratic vote.
After heated debate, the commission decided Belle Morris Elementary will remained closed as a polling place during the upcoming November election.
Election Commissioner Cliff Rodgers said they decided to close this location because it did not have proper handicap accessibility and enough parking.
"It wasn't a political issue from my standpoint...We just didn't have any issues with the Larry Cox Senior Center," said Commissioner Rodgers. "It's easy to get in, easy to get out and we had no problem with parking."
The Knox County Election Commission said it will re-address this issue after first of the year. The commission said it plans to analyze results from the November election.
Opponents of this decision said closing Belle Morris would exclude some voters, and inconvenience people who generally vote at that location.
