MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- A La Vergne woman who was babysitting a toddler when the little girl died has been sent to prison.
The Daily News Journal reported Jennifer Pomeroy accepted a plea bargain that brought her about five years behind bars. Had she been convicted at trial of the most serious charges against her, Pomeroy could have faced 25 years.
Investigators said 15-month-old Annalee Adkins died in 2010 as Pomeroy was caring for her. Police found Pomeroy put the toddler on the floor of her sedan as she drove a teenager to school and then came back home with four other small children in the car. Pomeroy covered the victim with a blanket and she suffocated.
Pomeroy pleaded guilty to child endangerment and entered "best interest" guilty pleas to four other charges.
