A body pulled from Cherokee Lake Saturday could be that of a missing camper.
That's according to Hamblen County Sheriff Esco Jarnagin, who said a fisherman spotted the body near a small island.
The sheriff estimates the body had been in the water for three days, adding that it was badly decomposed.
Sheriff Jarnagin says a camper and his boat went missing from the Gilmore campsite in Grainger County earlier this week. The missing boat has since been found, and the sheriff believes the missing camper may have been the man in the water.
The sheriff is not releasing the name of the camper pending notification of the family.
Right now, the sheriff is treating the case as an "unknown death," and an autopsy is planned.
