UT track athlete charged with assaulting ex-girlfriend

A UT track athlete is facing charges for domestic assault after police say he beat a woman with his cast.

Tyler Montez Anderson faces charges for allegedly beating an ex-girlfriend.

According to a police report, Anderson was at his ex-girlfriend's house in North Knoxville on Sunday.  The two got in an argument, and Anderson started beating the woman with a cast that was on his hand.

Police say the victim was hit in the mouth, nose, jaw, and arms.

Anderson faces another charge for vandalism for damaging the mailbox as he was leaving.

His bond has been set at $15-hundred dollars.

"We are aware of the incident and are in the process of gathering the facts and evaluating his status on the team," said 
Jimmy Stanton,  UT's Associate Athletic Director, Communications.

According to UT's website, Anderson is a sophomore from Antioch, Tennessee.  He competes in jumping and sprint events.
