Kaylah and Bradley Cooch of Knoxville exchanged vows in East Tennessee Saturday.
Wednesday, during their honeymoon, a 7.6 earthquake rattled the resort they were staying in near Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
"We had just gotten in the elevator and the lights turned off. It started dropping like Tower of Terror in Disney World. Once the doors finally opened, there were bricks and sheetrock falling everywhere," Kaylah Cooch told 10News by phone Thursday.
A tsunami warning would follow, requiring the newlyweds to temporarily evacuate to a nearby mountain.
After sleeping outdoors Wednesday night, the two flew back to Atlanta Thursday.
The honeymoon ended four days/three nights early.
Right now, the couple is unsure if travel insurance will cover their trip.
It was the groom's first trip outside the United States.
