The Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation held a charter presentation at St. Mary's Villa Senior Housing Facility on Friday morning.

Fifth Third Bank is partnering with the organization to help protect senior nursing home residents at St. Mary's Villas from crimes against the elderly.

While many are weary of internet scams, the newest scam to target senior citizens comes in the mail.

"With the changes in the Medicare laws and various programs for seniors, things are being created and mailed out that look like they are official, and what we try to do is just tell folks to take a minute before you just jump into something that looks nice, talk to somebody, report it," said Shannon McDonald, with the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation.

Nationwide, the senior crimestoppers program has reduced crime in participating facilities by 92 percent.
