A teenage boy was rushed to UT Medical Center after being shot near Austin-East High School around 4:30 Friday afternoon.
According to KPD spokesperson Darrell DeBusk, the victim, 14-year-old Lashawn Pierson, was shot once in the torso. He was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.
Pierson is a student at Vine Middle Magnet School student.
Police cannot release any information about a suspect at this time. They say they will continue to interview witnesses and review evidence recovered from the scene.
The shooting happened near the intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue and Hembree Street. Austin-East is about a block away.
