Folks enjoying their weekend in Downtown Knoxville now have a new way to get around. Friday was the soft launch for a new rickshaw business.

A rickshaw, also called a pedicab, is a bike with one wheel in the front and two in the back designed to carry passengers.

Back in July, the city council voted to allow them to be used as a vehicle for hire.

The creator of Downtown Rickshaw says a visit from her parents made her think of the idea.

"I brought my parents downtown to enjoy Market Square, and my office is in the Old City-- City Space Realty-- they couldn't get around. It was too hot, not enough stamina. So I went to an antique store, saw the antique rickshaw, and it just kind of started from there," said Joni Ford.

The rickshaws will take you from the Old City to Market Square. They'll be rolling seven days a week.
