Southern Elegance Salon located in Grainger County offered free haircuts and mini-manicures for anyone who came in and donated food for East Tennessee Students on Saturday.

These donations will help students at Joppa Elementary School. Each weekend, students will be able to take home backpacks full of the donated food.

Fundraiser organizers said nearly 70 students need these backpacks, so they can eat over the weekend. After only a couple weeks of into the new academic year, the school said it's run out.

Salon owner Mandi Davis said she hopes this food drive will help fill the void.

"This was something that seemed like it was a very big need right here in our own community, and we wanted to help out as much as we could," said Davis.

Davis said her salon located in Blaine is still needing food like granola bars, cereal, crackers and juice boxes.

So far, 7,000 food items have been donated to the effort.
