University of Tennessee fans didn't let pre-game rain and wind stop them from coming out in droves to the season home opener. And they certainly didn't let the weather dampen their Volunteer Spirit.

"The true Vol fans are out supporting their team. We have a few people up here on G-10 and we're having a good time," said Devin Maas, a tailgater.

The typically packed upper level of the G-10 parking deck didn't look like itself with only a dozen or so tents set up in the rain.

"This morning, driving up, we had to make a game time decision on whether to go undercover or top deck," said Barret Albritton, a tailgater.

Both the Maas and Albritton families braved the weather and opted for the top level, huddling under their tents and celebrating anyway.

But most folks could be found under the shelter of the lower levels.

"Everybody's happy that we're down here. Dry and ready to party," said Paul Williams, a tailgater.

"I think we've got the prime spot in the whole campus right now," said Mike Smeltzer, a tailgater who found shelter under Neyland's ramp.

Fans say the atmosphere is different this year with a win under their belt and more optimism than there has been in a while.

"Finally we have some depth and talent we haven't had in a few years so we're looking forward to this year," said Albritton.

The tailgaters say they'll be here all season no matter what the weather brings.

"Rain or shine we're Vols for life," said Claire Maas.
