A couple strolls down Gay Street in Downtown Knoxville Tuesday evening
Officials said they hope new parking meters will help make parking in Downtown Knoxville more easier and convenient.
On Monday morning and afternoon, the City of Knoxville's Traffic Engineering crews and a contractor installed multi-space meters along the 100 block of South Gay Street.
These meters accept both bills and credit cards. They have a two-hour limit and cost one dollar per hour.
Two units were installed along with signs directing drivers to the multi-space meters. These are the first multi-space meters installed in the City of Knoxville and are part of a pilot project to improve parking in the downtown area.
