Knoxville police say the teen victim in a shooting outside Austin-East High School is getting better.

The incident happened Friday around 4:30 p.m. on Martin Luther King Avenue.

Monday, KPD said 14-year-old Lashawn Pierson's condition is now stable.

Police still have not released any information on potential suspects. They say they are following leads and conducting interviews, but no warrants have been issued at this time.

Pierson is a student at Vine Middle School where extra counselors were on hand Monday.

Knox County Schools say there were eight counselors there. That includes Vine Middle School staff along with counselors and psychologists from other schools.

Throughout the day, school officials re-assessed the situation to see if they needed more support.

Knox County Schools says the counselors will be there as long as necessary.
