A local fire department recently received a piece of the World Trade Center. They just finished constructing a new memorial to honor the fallen and Tuesday night they will dedicate it.

Andrew Benson spent months trying to get a piece of steel to East Tennessee.

Just the site of the beam from the World Trade Center brings tears to his eyes. 11 years after that tragic day it is now standing back up, this time in Crossville, Tennessee.

"Something like this should never be forgotten," said Benson, "And that is another reason why I got this steel here. So you can actually touch it and you can see this twisted piece of metal."

Cumberland County Fire Chief, Jeff Dodson, explained, "Everyone feels this project belongs to them a little bit and it really does. It has really brought our community together and we are so proud."

Chief Dodson appreciates Benson's efforts. His hard work, along with community support, made the memorial possible.

A project which could have cost in upwards of $20,000, now cost around $1,000.

"We know there are really good men that died doing what firefighters do everyday," said Chief Dodson, "It's a reminder to us that there is no such thing as a typical day."

Tuesday night there will be a beam dedication and 9/11 ceremony at the Cumberland County Fire Department on Livingston Road in Crossville. The ceremony will take place at 5:00 p.m. CST, that's 6:00 p.m. EST. All are welcome to attend.
