UT fans storm the field after a 1998 overtime victory over the Gators.
Want to storm the field if the Vols beat Florida on Saturday? Knoxville Police are encouraging you to think twice.
According to KPD, some fans have already expressed a desire to storm the field if UT wins Saturday's game.
The last time that happened was 1998, when the Vols beat the Gators in overtime. The goal posts came down and were marched down Cumberland Avenue.
The department is reminding everyone that those actions will come with serious consequences.
Anyone caught entering the field will be arrested and charged with aggravated criminal trespassing. Anyone caught enticing someone else to enter the field also will be arrested and charged with inciting a riot.
Officers will also share the names of any students arrested with Judicial Affairs, which could impact their future with the university and hinder their ability to attend future university events.
KPD also will noticeably increase its officer presence in and near the stadium, because of the sold-out crowd. The stepped-up patrol is aimed at keeping all fans and visitors safe while they enjoy the game.
In the event of a Vols victory, university officials told police they will bring the players to the fans to celebrate.
