Tim asks: "What is the difference between a flash flood and a regular flood?"

A flood is an overflow of water onto normally dry land. This is a long-term event and may last days or weeks.

We're seeing regular flooding right now here in East Tennessee.

Flash floods are caused by excessive rainfall in a short period of time, generally less than six hours.

Flash floods can also occur even if no rain has fallen, say for instance a dam fails.
