Harry Potter has left Hogwarts and has entered college. Courses about the wizarding world are now underway nationwide.
Pellissippi State Community College professor Jake Hamric gave a lecture Tuesday called "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Higher Education."
Hamric says the series provides an example of how popular culture can be effectively used in a college classroom.
"These classrooms for a course on Harry Potter may have an opening for 25 students, but 75 show up the first day because they know Harry Potter and they want to discover from an expert, a teacher, how can we learn about this and apply it to politics or morality or power," he said.
Hamric also says the characters in Harry Potter must make important decisions that affect themselves and others, just like we do in modern society.
