Canoers and kayakers in south Knoxville now have a new place to launch.

Mayor Madeline Rogero and the Legacy Parks Foundation opened a restored river access point on Island River Drive.

They also unveiled the city's first blueway directional signage.
Like greenway signs, the blueway signs will give river users information about nearby amenities, and include a QR code that links to a map of the full blueway system.

"You would be surprised that we are right in the middle of the City of Knoxville, really. That you're right in the middle of an industrial park but it is so beautiful up and down this river. So you get a little piece of heaven on the river if you come down and paddle," said Mayor Rogero.

The Legacy Parks Foundation used money from two grants to restore the non-motorized river access point.
