President Obama is also playing the game of lowering debate expectations.
Speaking
to supporters last night in Las Vegas, Obama said that Republican
opponent Mitt Romney is "a good debater -- I'm just OK."
Both sides are busy building up the other guy ahead of Wednesday night's clash in Denver.
In
a recent memo. Romney senior adviser Beth Myers praised Obama as a
"universally-acclaimed public speaker" with "natural gifts and extensive
seasoning under the bright lights of the debate stage."
Obama is spending the next two days in the Las Vegas area, practicing for the big night.
In
a rally at a Las Vegas high school -- his last public appearance before
the debate -- Obama made a crack about reports that Romney is preparing
a package of "zingers" for Wednesday night.
"I know folks in the
media are speculating already on who's going to have the best zingers,"
Obama said. "I don't know about that -- 'who's going to put the most
points on the board.'"
Obama added:
"What I'm most concerned
about is having a serious discussion about what we need to do to keep
the country growing and restore security for hardworking Americans.
That's what people are going to be listening for. That's the debate that
you deserve."
