East Tennessee minister Freddie Combs once weighed over 900 pounds and came close to death in 2009. He's since lost 400 pounds and gained a new outlook on life. An audition on the Fox show "The X-Factor" has turned him into a television and internet superstar.
Combs' near-death story and audition in a wheelchair won him plenty of attention but it was his jaw-dropping voice while singing "Wind Beneath My Wings" that won the crowd and the rest of the world over. He's been featured on "Access Hollywood" and "Entertainment Tonight". He impressed the judges in particular, Simon Cowell who said he had a vision that Combs would perform while standing.
"The X-Factor" airs on Fox.
