It was a nice morning to get outside and enjoy a stroll to school. Knox County Schools Superintendent Jim McIntyre and students from Norwood Elementary did just that on National Walk to School Day on Wednesday.
The goal was to promote healthy living as kids walk or bike to school.
Dr. McIntyre said the Knox County Health Department and the schools worked together to create safe walking routes for students. The superintendent said walking to class has numerous benefits.
"It's a great choice, if possible, for our kids to walk to schools. It's a good start, a good healthy choice for them. So, we're excited to be out here today to reinforce that message," he said.
Dr. McIntyre said he hopes this event will encourage more students to walk to school.
