Hundreds gathered at the Boys and Girls Club in Oneida to recognize a few special people and hear Governor Haslam speak. The Boys and Girls Clubs of Cumberland Plateau in Scott County held its annual hall of fame induction on Thursday.
Governor Haslam was on hand to speak about the importance of mentoring our youth. The program also included dinner. Tickets were $50, and all the proceeds will benefit the club.
The governor said the recession makes the Boys and Girls Club's role even more important.
"I also believe in Boys and Girls Clubs. I've been a supported in Knox County, but all across the state they do critical work, and in tough times, in places that have been struggling like Scott County is right now, they're even more important," said Gov. Haslam.
Channel 10 will be fixing up a field next to the club so the kids can have a safe place to play. It's part of our parent company's "Making a Difference Day."
We'll let you know more about the project and how you can help in the coming weeks.
