Knoxville police are searching for a man they say stole cash from an apartment in the Fort Sanders area by showing a knife.

It happened just before 11:30 p.m. on Laurel Avenue in the Fort Sanders area, according to a KPD release.

The victim, 23-year-old Charles Bice, told police a man came to the door of his apartment and asked to use the restroom.

He allowed the man inside and said they spoke for about five minutes, adding that the man "was friendly and he did not expect any criminal activity" until the man picked up some cash that was in plain sight.

When Bice confronted the suspect, he told police the man showed him a large knife in his waistband, so he allowed the suspect to leave.

The victim told police the suspect may go by the name Justin or J.T. and is described as a white man in his mid-30s, possibly homeless, around 5 feet, six inches tall, with a blond buzzcut, blue eyes and numerous tattoos.
