Runners got a colorful start to their Saturday morning, participating in the "Color Me Rad 5-K" in Chilhowee Park.
This race wasn't your typical run. Runners wore a white t-shirts, and got pelted with color bombs as they raced through the park.
The color bombs are made of FDA approved colored cornstarch. Organizers estimate they use nearly 5,000 pounds of it for every race. Participants looked like a pack of Skittles when they crossed the finish line.
Waves of 1,000 people took off from the start line every five minutes beginning at nine Saturday morning. People of all ages could walk or run in this family fun event.
Organizers say 55,000 people participated in the run, which benefited the East Tennessee Children's Hospital. A portion of the money raised helps fund community programs.
