More than 1,000 people laced up their tennis shoes and walked to help raise awareness for people with Down syndrome at Knoxville's World's Fair Park on Sunday afternoon.
People walked to not only raise awareness, but raise money as well. Walkers collected pledges from supporters.
The Down Syndrome Awareness Group of East Tennessee organized the 16th annual "Knoxville Buddy Walk." All proceeds from this event goes towards the group and its community programs.
This event also included activities for the whole family from inflatable fun for kids, exhibits, food, a silent auction and prizes after the end of the walk.
Down syndrome is a genetic abnormality affecting more than 400,000 people throughout the country.
