NORTHERN CAMBRIA, Pa. (AP) -- It's not clear why he did it, but a man is charged with attempting to rob a local bank in western Pennsylvania of $1. Authorities say he hoped to be sent to a nearby federal prison.
Jeffrey McMullen has been a regular customer of an AmericServe bank in Northern Cambria. Police say he presented notes to two bank tellers demanding a buck. They each thought it was a joke. Undeterred, police say McMullen made the same demand to a new accounts representative.
Police say McMullen apparently wanted to be prosecuted federally so he could be taken to a prison in central Pennsylvania.
