Lonsdale Elementary in Knoxville has a new program called the Cardiac Club. It's a 20-week program aimed at getting kids excited about exercise and being healthy overall.

Fourth and fifth graders are involved, and it isn't a mandatory class. The kids want to be there.

Teachers say they had to write an essay on why they should be allowed in the Cardiac Club.

"I'm hoping that what they gain from this, it's going to make such a life impact, that they're going to want to exercise for a long time to come," said Lonsdale PE teacher Julie Lowe.

The Cardiac Club isn't just about exercise. The program also includes healthy snacks for the kids so they can learn the basics of nutrition.
