A study released Friday by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation shows more than 250,000 Tennesseans were the victims of domestic abuse between the years of 2009 and 2011.
However, during that time, the amount of reported domestic violence cases in the state
only decreased by 1.1 percent.
Amy Dilworth, executive director of the Family Justice Center in Knoxville, said it was sad that the statistics remain high.

"It's continuing to be an issue here in Tennessee and in the Southeast," she said.
Dilworth said the amount of emergency calls directed into the E911 center pertaining to domestic violence fluctuates as well. In 2011 alone, the Knox County Sheriff's Office and Knoxville Police Department received a combined 19,411 calls.
"We've seen them go down and then we've seen them go back up for a year, but they still reflect one call every 30 minutes," she said.

In an effort to eliminate domestic violence, the Knoxville YWCA will kick off "A Week Without Violence" October 15. The multi-day event will include workshops, displays and a walk in memory of domestic violence victims.
