A group of East Tennessee firefighters are being called the best of the best, and getting new recognition for the work they do that protects all of us.
Tuesday, the Insurance Professionals of Greater Knoxville held its Firefighter of the Year awards banquet.
In all, four men are honored this year. They're from three departments: Rural/Metro, Seymour Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Knoxville.
"Since 9-11, we've realized how important these men and women are, and they go beyond the call of duty. Two of our nominees went into a burning house when someone told them that there's no one else in there and they found a person in there," said Vivian McFalls.
The firefighters honored were nominated by their own chiefs and captains.
