East Tennessee firefighters are helping support an organization they work closely with to help fire victims. The Knoxville Firefighters Association donated $5,000 to the American Red Cross on Wednesday.

Firefighters say the gift is only natural since the two organizations work hand-in-hand.

"You know we work as a partnership. We're there on the scenes, they show up on the scenes helping people. We help people; they help people. It's a win-win situation," said Knoxville Fire Department Captain Kevin Faddis.

The Red Cross says it will use the money for fire response, which could include food, shelter, clothes or counseling for those involved in a fire.

The donation will also be used to teach children about fire safety and what to do if a fire breaks out in their home.
