Authorities have released the name of an Anderson County deputy who shot and killed a suspect during a scuffle.
According to an Anderson County Sheriff's Office press release, Deputy Steven Williams pulled over a car on Pine Ridge Road on Saturday, October 13. After the driver stopped in a driveway, officials say he jumped out of the car and ran away. Deputy Williams chased him for a short distance. When he caught up with the suspect, the suspect tried to take the deputies weapon in a struggle. During the scuffle, the deputy shot and killed the suspect.
Deputy Williams was injured in the struggle. He was treated at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge and released.
The Anderson County Sheriff's Office says Deputy Williams has been with the department July 2008.
Deputy Williams is undergoing departmental counseling for the shooting before returning to work. This is routine following a shooting.
