An East Tennessee college will soon have a new name. Carson-Newman trustees voted unanimously to change the college's name to Carson-Newman University.

The change will take effect January 1. Officials say the change will help in recruiting, especially among international students who think of "college" as "high school."

Since Carson-Newman offers masters-level programs, it qualifies as a university.
