Police identify the victim of a West Knoxville stabbing

Update 7:09 pm.

Knoxville Police have identified the victim from a West Knoxville stabbing on Friday night.

Officers said Wesley B. Stanley, 40, of Knoxville was stabbed at Inn Towne Suites off Gallaher View Road.  Police responded to that scene just after 10:30 pm.

Authorities said Stanley was transported to UT Medical Hospital for surgery.  Officials said his injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

Stanley described the suspect as a man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

Police stopped another man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, and after taking him in for questioning, officers determined he was not involved in that stabbing.  Authorities said Xavier Cate, 20, from Knoxville was transporting marijuana for resale.  Knoxville Police said he was arrested for violating a drug-free school zone.  

Authorities are not releasing any more information at this time.  The investigation remains ongoing.

Knoxville Police are searching for one suspect involved in a late night stabbing Friday.

It happened at the Inn Towne Suites on S. Gallaher View Road in West Knoxville. Police were called to the scene just after 10:30 Friday night.

The victim described the person who stabbed him as a male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

No other information about the suspect has been released and the investigation is ongoing.

Police stopped another man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, and after taking him in for questioning they found that he was not involved in the stabbing but was transporting marijuana for resale. They then arrested him for that offense.

The victim underwent surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Officials have not released his identity.
