After more than a year and half of planning, Knox County commissioners have approved a $1 million roundabout project.

The money will pay to convert two of the county's most dangerous intersections from two-way-sto to roundabouts.

One is proposed for the intersection of Bob Gray Road and Mabry Hood Road.

The other would go at Bob Gray Road and Bob Kirby Road.

The county estimates in three years there's been more than 40 wrecks at those sites and Van de Vate says extensive traffic studies and consulting shows roundabouts will help fix it.

Not all neighbors are convinced. Some would have to give up property to make room for the project.

Others remain uncertain that the expensive, inconvenient project will yield proportionate results when cheaper alternatives haven't been tried.
