Hundreds of needy families got a helping hand Thursday morning, thanks to a national non-profit organization.
Members from the Feed the Children organization brought in 400 boxes of food and 400 boxes of hygiene items. The distribution was held at the Boys and Girls Club of the Cumberland Plateau, in Oneida.
The distribution was not only for people in Scott County but also families in Morgan County and McCreary County, Kentucky.
The distribution started at 9:00 am but organizers say by 7:00 this morning cars were already starting to line up. Families had to be pre-qualified to receive the boxes.
"People are down to their last penny at the end of the month and they have to watch their gas. It's a good box of food," said Terrie Cross of the|Appalachia Life Quality Initiative.
Volunteer say that they are not surprised to see a big turn out at this morning's distribution since Scott County has had the highest unemployment rate in the state for the last two years.
