One person is dead and two are injured after two vehicle accident in Sevier County on Saturday, Oct. 20.
The fatal accident happened on Newport Hwy. near Sevierville at approximately 10:21 that morning.
Cale L. Faircloth, 28, was driving southbound on Newport Hwy. and made a left-hand turn onto Fairgarden Road. He did not give the right of way to a Chevrolet Silverado turning right onto Fairgarden Road. The Silverado collided with the Faircloth's Ford Ranger, drove off the roadway and overturned onto its hood.
Two people were inside the Silverado at the time of the crash. Glenn S. Matthews, 55, was the driver of that vehicle and Wilma D. Matthews, 60, was his passenger. Wilma Matthews was transported to UT Medical Center, where she died six days later. Both Glenn Matthews and Faircloth were injured in that wreck.
Before police arrived on scene, Faircloth fled the scene, but surrendered to officers the next day at approximately 11 a.m. at the Sevier County Jail.
