Those old coats sitting around your house could help warm a neighbor this winter.

The Blount County Fire Department is holding its annual "Coats for our Community" effort.

Since 1994, the firefighters have collected coats and donations for Blount County families and children.

Starting on Monday, November 5th, families can pick out a coat for free at 5156 Sevierville Road in Blount County.

After that, firefighters will take a trailer full of new coats to kids in the Maryville, Greenback, Blount County and Seymour schools.

"They're extremely grateful. Some people you can tell they are embarrassed to be here. We try to make them as comfortable as possible," said Blounty County Fire Chief, Doug McClanaha." Then you've got people that are really in need and they are here and lots of parents will come in and say my kids need something. They are tickled to death to walk out of here warm."

Coming up this weekend the firefighters will hold an auction to raise even more money for the coats. For more information head to their website or call 865-983-2133
