The Knoxville City Council has approved a new contract for Visit Knoxville.

Members approved the contract for the organization formerly known as the Knoxville Tourism and Sports Corporation at its meeting on Tuesday.

Visit Knoxville is responsible for marketing our area.

Council also decided to apply for a $2 million federal transit grant for Knoxville Area Transit.

"That will help with maintenance and some of the extra expenses to keep municipal buses going. You got to understand that not everyone that rides the bus is affluent, and they try to keep those fares as reasonable as they can," said Nick Della Volpe, Fourth District councilman.

Council members also approved budgeting $700,000 for repairs to fix leaks at the Knoxville Convention Center.
