Residents return home on Bluff Mountain after brush fires

Update 6:00 a.m.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Firefighters say up to 20 acres were burning before crews could get the fire under control around midnight.

Officials say they have found the area where they believe the fire started, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Update 11:38 p.m.

Sevier County authorities said they went door-to-door evacuating several homes on Bluff Mountain because of a fire threat.

Sevier County dispatch said two to three brush fires broke out on Bluff Mountain Road on Tower Road.

According to dispatch, firefighters were able to put out a couple of the fires, but are still fighting a larger fire on Tower Road.

Dispatch said more than a dozen agencies were responding at those scenes.

There are no injuries reported at this time.

Sevier County authorities said they are evacuating the top of Bluff Mountain near Tower Road on Saturday night.

Sevier County dispatch said there were two to three brush fires on Bluff Mountain. According to dispatch, firefighters from several departments were able to put out two or three smaller fires on Bluff Mountain Road, but there is still a bigger fire on Tower Road.

Pigeon Force Fire Department said it has taken command of the scene. Walden Creek Fire Department is also responding to the brush fire, among others.
