Tomorrow is Election Day and the Knox County Election Commission has a few helpful tips for voters. Polls are open Tuesday, November 6th from 8 am to 8 pm.
"On Election Day, you're required to vote in the precinct where you live," said Administrator of Elections Cliff Rodgers. "Our early locations are closed on Election Day. Don't show up and try to vote at Downtown West!"
Voters unsure about their polling place should visit knoxcounty.org/election. On that website, there is a link called "Where do I vote?" Voters can enter their address and find their proper polling place.
"If you go to the wrong polling place, our election officials will send you to the right polling place," said Administrator Rodgers. "But save yourself some time, visit our website, and make sure you go to the correct polling place to vote."
All voters should remember to bring state or federal photo identification to the polls. More information about photo ID can be found at knoxcounty.org/election.
"Don't forget your photo ID," said Administrator Rodgers, "Unless an exception applies, voters without a photo ID will be required to vote a paper (provisional) ballot on Election Day."
Voters should expect moderate to heavy lines, especially in the early morning and late evening hours. Voters in line at 8 pm will be allowed to vote.
"We will not release any election results until all the folks in line at 8 pm have voted," said Administrator Rodgers. "In fact, depending on turnout, we may not release any results until after 9 pm."
After voting has ended on election night, election officials will post unofficial results at knoxcounty.org/election. If you have an iPad or iPhone, visit the App Store and download the election results app.
"We're expecting approximately 50,000 - 70,000 voters tomorrow," said Administrator Rodgers. "Please be patient with our election officials and call us if you have any questions or experience any problems."
