Voters are still casting their ballots at polling sites across East Tennessee. At Cedar Bluff Middle School, there has been a steady stream of voters throughout the day.

The polls will close at 8 p.m., and a long day for election officials will come to an end.

Suffice to say, Election Day is a busy day for Administrator of Elections Cliff Rodgers.

"You look at the phone, every line is lit up. My cell phone is ringing. Basically it's a garden variety presidential election day, nothing out of the ordinary," he said.

Rodgers says voter turnout Tuesday is moderate to heavy.

"This is exactly what we thought it would be like today; there's going to be lines. Hopefully they won't be more than 15 or 20 minutes, but some I understand are 30 minutes to an hour."

About two-thirds of voters cast their ballots early on electronic voting machines, but Tuesday a stack of written absentee ballots swamped the election office. Those totals will be released once the polls close.

"Once we know all the folks have voted, we'll be able to post our early voting and presumably our absentee numbers. We've got folks in there counting the absentee ballots right now," said Rodgers.

At the polls on Tuesday, voters saw a few minor problems like a half-hour delay at West Hills Elementary. But on the whole, things have gone smoothly with the help of prepared voters.

"Still want to remind your viewers, bring a photo ID when they come to vote. And if you've got your voter registration card, please bring it because it helps us get you checked in a whole lot quicker," said Rodgers.

Again, the voter registration card is not required, but it speeds things up. You will need a photo ID to cast a ballot. Polls close at 8 p.m. You will be able to cast a ballot as long as you are in line by 8 o'clock. You can plug your address in on this website to find your polling location.
