We saw some close competition on election night in an East Tennessee House race.

Democrat Gloria Johnson came out on top in the tight race in District 13.  She met with election officials early this morning as they counted absentee ballots.  Crews were there until 4:00 am, confirming the results.

Johnson says it was a long night, but she's excited about the outcome.  She credits a team campaign effort for her victory.

"A lot of hard work, a lot of door knocking, lots of phone calls and a whole lot of fabulous volunteers who helped and wanted to make this happen," said Johnson.

Johnson came away with 48% of the vote.  Loe had 47%.

Loe says he called Johnson late Wednesday morning to concede.
The Republican was not at Knox County's GOP election night event.

"District 13 with the redistricting was truly a toss-up district. Fifty percent Republican, fifty percent Democrat. The voters showed that they want the status quo, the past 48 out of 50 years it's been democrat, and once again it will be," said Loe.

Loe said he wishes Johnson the best in Nashville, and knows she'll do a good job.   Now, he plans to focus on his television production company.

The Knox County Elections website shows 100% of the vote is in.

The only race this could affect is the tight battle between Democrat Gloria Johnson and Republican Gary Loe in State House District 13.  Right now, Johnson is shown as the winner of that race, with 9763 votes to Loe's 9368.
