KUB a squirrel is to blame for a power outage that affected more than 6,800 customers in West Knoxville Thursday afternoon.

They say the squirrel crawled into one of their main lines, tripping a breaker switch.

The outage occurred around 5 p.m., when KUB says the West Hills substation went out.

Customers report the power was out between 10 and 30 minutes.

The outage affected traffic lights in the middle of rush hour.  There were several accidents reported on Middlebrook Pike during that time.

There is no word on the fate of the squirrel.
